Introduction to Global Women's Studies

GWS 222

GWS 222 is an introduction to global women’s studies and is required for all students wishing to minor in GWS. During this course, students become more familiar with the critical vocabulary that is essential to the field. Students will learn to recognize the ways in which social structures and issues have affected and affect women’s lives, and will begin to gain an appreciation of the contributions of women throughout history and internationally. As a result of this learning, it is anticipated that students will begin to make informed decisions about their own behavior, health, education, and employment, based on their understand of the role that gender plays in relationships and society. In addition to lecture, discussion, and reading assignments, coursework may include experience writing, performing, service work, and presenting research related to women’s studies in oral and written formats.
