Over-Hours Request

Semester/Term Over Hours Request

Students who wish to exceed the maximum credit limit must submit an Over Hours Request. This includes:

  • 18.5–21 credits during Fall or Winter Semester
  • 9.5–11 credits during Spring or Summer Term

Qualifications:

To be considered for over hours approval, you must:

  • Be in good academic standing
  • Have completed at least one semester at BYU
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher

Process

  • Complete and submit the Over Hours Request form below.
  • Your request will be reviewed by Kennedy Center Advisement.
  • You will be notified if your request is approved, denied, or requires additional information.

Important Information

  • Kennedy Center Advisement can approve up to 21 credits during a semester or 11 credits during a term. Requests above these limits require a petition through the BYU Registrar's Office.
  • If approved, you may register for the additional credits on the first day of classes. You may register for up to 18 credits (semester) or 9 credits (term) during your assigned registration period and add the remaining credits on the first day of classes.
