CAMBODIA, THAILAND, MALAYSIA, SINGAPORE
Join us for an unforgettable experience as we tour ancient and modern civil engineering projects in some of the most beautiful and culturally rich locations in Southeast Asia. After once-per-week meetings during winter semester and three weeks of classroom study and preparatory work during spring term, we will spend three weeks visiting sites in Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. Site visits will likely include Angkor Wat, the temple of the Emerald Buddha, colonial Penang, the Petronas and Merdeka 118 skyscrapers, the Port of Singapore, Marina Bay, Changi Airport, and more! Students will be organized into teams to study how global, economic, social, and financial issues interact with infrastructure systems to affect the sustainability of a society. The course will be focused on all disciplines of civil and construction engineering: structures, transportation, construction and facilities management, geotechnical, water resources, and environmental. The course will include credit for two required civil and construction engineering courses: CCE 201—Sustainable Infrastructure and CCE 231—Global Leadership. The course is open to Civil and Construction Engineering majors only.
