Ticket to Code: Computer Science, Philosophy, History, Art, and Ethics in Europe

Explore Europe in the context of philosophy, ethics, history, art, and computer science! Learning will take place through lecture, site visits, readings, essays, and discussions. We will begin our travels in Scotland, the homeland of philosopher David Hume and economist Adam Smith, visiting sites such as Edinburgh Castle, Stirling Castle, the Royal Mile, and the National Museum of Scotland. We will then travel south to England, immersing ourselves in the history and art of London, including the British Museum, Westminster Abbey, and world-class theaters in the West End. We will also experience the rich computing history of Bletchley Park and the educational institution that is Cambridge. Then we will travel south to Paris, France, home of René Descartes, another thinker in philosophical thought. We will visit the magnificent Notre Dame cathedral, the Palace of Versailles, the Louvre Museum, and the Latin Quarter. Our journey will continue in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, a land historically known for windmills, tulips, canals—as well as the atrocities of war and the courage of brave individuals. We will visit the Anne Frank House, the Ten Boom Museum, the Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum, and more. Finally, we will travel to Berlin to experience the art, history, and German culture at Museum Island, as well the remnants of war, rebuilding, remembrance, and forgiveness at Ravensbrück. Join us!
