Therapy Approaches & Cultural Diversity Across Italy

Prepare for a future in the mental health professions through BYU’s Therapy Approaches and Cultural Diversity Across Italy study abroad. Designed for undergraduate students exploring careers in marriage and family therapy, clinical psychology, social work, counseling, and related fields, this program introduces students to therapy fundamentals and approaches such as cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, and strategic therapy at renowned Italian clinical training centers. Led by BYU Marriage and Family Therapy faculty, alongside their spouses who are also practicing therapists, the program offers mentorship into how a career as a therapist can be built and sustained across different life stages and specialties.

In addition to learning therapy fundamentals, students will travel the length of Italy while immersing themselves in the country's art, history, music, cuisine, and family-centered traditions. They will stay in places like Venice, Milan, Florence, Rome, the Amalfi Coast, Puglia, and Sicily. Through cultural engagement and guided reflection, students will deepen their intercultural awareness, self-awareness, and understanding of how social and cultural contexts shape human experiences and relationships, all hallmarks of effective mental health professionals.
