Business & Culture in Italy and Europe

Dates: 29 August–22 November 2026
Application Deadline: 1 February 2026

ITALY, FRANCE, SWITZERLAND, ENGLAND, AND SPAIN

This immersive European study abroad will be a life-changing adventure visiting cultural landmarks across Europe. It is geared toward students interested in enhancing their understanding of global businesses and the social and cultural contexts in which they operate. We will use Milan, Italy as a base for explorations of business and culture throughout Italy, France, Switzerland, England, and Spain. Fall promises to be particularly vibrant, as Milan will be alive with great operas, concerts, and festivals. Early fall is also an ideal time to immerse ourselves in world-famous mountain hikes in the Swiss Alps and Italian Dolomites.

We will make business and cultural visits in Italy, France, England and Switzerland. Outside Italy, we will visit (and sometimes hike) historical, cultural, and religious sites throughout Europe, including the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, Versailles, the Swiss Alps, the Rome Latter-day Saint temple, the Vatican, Westminster Abbey, and St. Mark’s Square in Venice

Preparation

Accepted students are required to participate in our study abroad preparation course (IAS 201R, 1 credit). This course will be held during the second block of winter semester 2026, on Wednesdays from 4 to 6 PM. Part-time and non-BYU students will need to pay an additional tuition fee for enrolling in this prep class.

Students must meet all country- and program-specific COVID and health requirements for travel.

International study programs are physically, emotionally, and mentally taxing and you must be in good health to participate. These programs often take place in international locations that do not have the same level of safety and services in terms of transportation, living conditions, residential accommodations, food, public behavior, and policing that you may be used to on campus. If you have further questions or concerns on this, please see our travel policy.

Housing

Students will reside and take classes in Milan. As Italy’s center for business, fashion, design, and art, and home to some of the most beautiful architecture in Europe, Milan is a walkable and safe city, with Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper, the Duomo, and La Scala Opera House. Students primarily stay in hotels (sometimes youth hostels) during scheduled trips in locations convenient to our planned business and cultural visits.
