Global Opportunities for Healthcare Leadership (GOHL)

INDIA, THAILAND, CAMBODIA, LAOS, & VIETNAM

Discover how cultures across Asia approach health, healing, and service while gaining a global perspective on healthcare delivery, financing, and management. This program offers students the opportunity to explore how emerging technologies, innovative business models, and ancient wisdom combine to elevate wellbeing. By visiting hospitals, meeting political leaders and healthcare professionals, and serving communities, students will experience diverse healthcare models. Through hands-on humanitarian service and cross-cultural learning, participants will deepen their compassion, broaden their vision, and be empowered and inspired to engage in Christlike leadership in their future careers and throughout their lives.

Healthcare/business visits (tentative):
India: Narayana Health Hospital, Apollo Hospital System; Thailand: Bumrungrad International Hospital, Siriraj Medical Museum, Bangkok Hospital; Cambodia: Cambodia Minister of Health, Calmette Medical Center, National Maternal & Child Health Center, Techo Sen Koh Thom Hospital.

Cultural Visits (tentative):
India: Taj Mahal, Bengaluru Palace, Sanjay Colony, Bengaluru India LDS temple; Thailand: the Grand Palace, Bangkok Thailand LDS temple, MTC Thailand, Jim Thompson House, Wat Pho, San Kamphaeng–Ton Pao; Cambodia: Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, Phnom Penh Cambodia LDS temple, Tropang Sala Village Orphanage project, Angkor Wat, Svay Rieng Province, Village on Stilts; Laos: Kuang Si Falls; Vietnam: Hỏa Lò Prison Museum, Nam Hong or Hanoi Tunnels.

Courses

Students are required to take 6 credit hours during spring term:

MSB 430—Introduction to International Business (3 credits)
BUS M 490—Special Topics in Becoming a Christlike Leader (3 credits)

This program will fulfill course and foreign experience requirements for the Global Management Certificate offered by the Marriott School.

Students may not take any other courses on this program, including BYU Online courses, without approval by the program director and ISP.

Cost

$10,400–10,800

Includes all flights to and from the program, Latter-day Saint undergraduate full tuition (increased cost for graduate and non–Latter-day Saint students), housing, group excursions, some meals (including all breakfasts), some public transportation, and international health insurance.

Does not include personal expenses (such as non-covered meals, souvenirs, additional public transportation, and non-group excursions).

Funding Sources

Regular BYU tuition scholarships, Pell Grants, and Federal Insured Student Loans may be applied to study abroad programs.

Students who submit the financial aid section of the ISP application and who have a current FAFSA form on file at the Financial Aid Office (A-41 ASB) will be considered for a Study Abroad scholarship.

Academic departments and colleges may assist with scholarships and grants.

Private grants and scholarships outside of BYU may also assist (see kennedy.byu.edu/scholarships).

Preparation

Accepted students are required to participate in an international cross-cultural preparation course (IAS 201R, 1 credit hour). This evening class will be held on Wednesdays from 5 to 6:30 PM during the second block of winter semester 2026. Part-time BYU students and non-BYU students will need to pay an additional tuition fee for enrolling in this prep class.

Students will need to get e-visas for India, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam prior to departure.

Students must meet all country- and program- specific COVID and health requirements for travel.

International study programs are physically, emotionally, and mentally taxing and you must be in good health to participate. These programs often take place in international locations that do not have the same level of safety and services in terms of transportation, living conditions, residential accommodations, food, public behavior, and policing that you may be used to on campus. Housing

Students stay in hotels or hostels. All housing and travel will be arranged by the program.

Travel

Flights to and from the program will be arranged by the program director through a BYU Travel Agent, and is included in the cost of the program. Students cannot purchase their own flights.

Application Process

Students must be 18 years of age or older to participate.

Complete the online application here. A nonrefundable $35 application fee is required; applicants will be interviewed once the application is complete.

Students will be notified via e-mail of their acceptance into the program. The first payment is due upon acceptance; please refer to the Payment Information page.

Program Adjustments

International Study Programs (ISP) reserves the right to cancel this program, revise its offerings, or make any adjustments to the preliminary cost.

If it becomes necessary for ISP to cancel a program, all program payments made to BYU ISP will be refunded to the student’s BYU Financial account.

ISP is the only office authorized to cancel any of its programs.
