Global Health: Thailand

7 May–3 Aug 2025 (approx.)
Application Deadline: 1 December 2024

Indorama Ventures have invited BYU students to intern with Samantha Connell, Environmental/Occupational Health (EOH) Global Manager for Indorama. Dr. Thygerson and Samantha Connell have worked closely together over the years as officers in the American Industrial Hygiene Association’s (AIHA) International Affairs Committee. Samantha is also the president of the International Occupational Health Association (IOHA). This three-month internship is part of a long-standing internship program that Indorama Ventures offers to students from around the world studying sustainability, accounting and finance, marketing, and investor relations.

Student interns will work directly with EOH professionals focusing on classic industrial hygiene issues at a global chemical manufacturing company using cutting-edge equipment and technology. Students will conduct all aspects of anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of workplace hazards. Students will also be involved in cultural activities that the company does on a regular basis.

Student interns will work with the Joint Action Committee of employees to ensure that all levels of the workforce are in statutory compliance, taking account of compulsory and periodic Health & Safety Training while equipping all staff with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in-line with their responsibilities. Interns will assist all EOH functions to maintain zero fatalities in the operations and to continually improve the performance in health, safety, and well-being through certification of the ISO 45001/OSHAS 18001 management system, internal corporate standards.
