Family History in Spain

Dates: 12 May–1 June 2026
Application Deadline: 15 January 2026

This internship program will provide hands-on family history research experience in multiple archives in various parts of Spain. In addition, students will learn both the history of Spain and the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Spain. The experience will be divided into three parts: one week in Provo where the students will work with Peggy Ryskamp in preparing research plans and itineraries for paying clients, 3 weeks in Spain conducting client archival research (Madrid, Salamanca, Segóvia, Ávila, Garganta La Olla, Barcelona, and Vic), and the last two weeks in Provo working with Peggy Ryskamp on drafting and submitting client research reports. As such, each student will come away with intensive training and actual research in multiple archives. Beyond time spent in archives, students will have exposure to Latter-day Saint history, Spanish cultural history, and culinary arts by visiting historical sites and museums, interviewing LDS pioneer members, and participating in cultural and Church activities.
