Design Weeks provide design practitioners with city-wide venues to exhibit their work and discuss current design issues. Dutch Design Week (DDW), which takes place in Eindhoven, Netherlands, is the largest design event in northern Europe and one of the most vibrant as a channel for experimental designers. With more than 2,600 designers exhibiting work in over one hundred locations across the city, students will have plenty to see and do. This study abroad focuses on activities, exhibits, and the latest design developments at DDW. A short amount of time will be spent in Amsterdam exploring museums, visiting notable design stores, and eating Dutch pancakes.
Students will enroll in 2.0 credits of the following course during fall semester 2025:
INDES 338R—ID Field Study Seminar
This course will be part of the student’s regular semester academic load. This program is open to all design students; design students can receive elective credit for INDES 338R.
Students may not take any other courses on this program, including BYU Online courses, without approval by the program director and ISP.
Cost
$3,900–4,300
Includes airfare, local housing, transportation, some entrance fees, and international health insurance.
Does not include food or personal expenses.
Funding Sources
Regular BYU tuition scholarships, Pell Grants, and Federal Insured Student Loans may be applied to study abroad programs.
Students who submit the financial aid section of the ISP application and who have a current FAFSA form on file at the Financial Aid Office (A-41 ASB) will be considered for a Study Abroad scholarship.
Academic departments and colleges may assist with scholarships and grants.
Admitted students will receive some funding from the Department of Design to participate in this experience.
Students must commit to the entire duration of Design Week and are responsible to meet at the designated times and locations for all scheduled program events.
Students must meet all country- and program-specific COVID and health requirements for travel.
International study programs are physically, emotionally, and mentally taxing and you must be in good health to participate. These programs often take place in international locations that do not have the same level of safety and services in terms of transportation, living conditions, residential accommodations, food, public behavior, and policing that you may be used to on campus. Housing
Students will be housed in local hotels in Eindhoven and Amsterdam.
Travel
The program director will make all travel reservations with BYU Travel.
Students must be 18 years of age or older to participate.

Program Adjustments
International Study Programs (ISP) reserves the right to cancel this program, revise its offerings, or make any adjustments to the preliminary cost.
If it becomes necessary for ISP to cancel a program, all program payments made to BYU ISP will be refunded to the student’s BYU Financial account.
ISP is the only office authorized to cancel any of its programs.
