Buenos Aires Argentina: Cosmopolitanism on the Fringes

This program will take as its focus the cultural hub that is Buenos Aires, Argentina. Buenos Aires is known as "the Paris of South America," and we will explore what it means to be a Latin American cosmopolitan center. We will approach Buenos Aires as a strategic port city, one that is closely connected both by heritage and commerce to Europe, while also serving as a doorway into Latin America. During our time there, we will study literature, art, and history, with a special focus on what this magnificent city has to offer from concerts to museums to the theater.  To participate in this program, YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE FLUENT IN SPANISH, but you should have some familiarity with the language—one or two courses from high school or college is enough—as well as a desire to learn more Spanish.
