International Biology Internships: Vanuatu

A small cohort of students will live independently in Tanna, Vanuatu, a Pacific island archipelago, approximately 1,400 miles from Australia, 3,500 miles from Hawaii, and 4,200 miles from Japan, during winter semester. Students will conduct field research on this unique research-based internship. Vanuatu is famous for cultural diversity and tradition and is a rich biodiverse setting for a biology field internship. Students internship research will focus on the evolution of insects with a major focus on dragonflies and beetles. By collecting samples, students will learn about insect distribution and behavior. The internship is designed to not only provide a completely unique research experience but also to result in presentations at national meetings and publishing in peer-reviewed publications with student authors. The goal is to produce wing morphology data to explore the evolution of flight strategies over the evolutionary history of dragonflies, insect order Odonata.
