How do gospel principles help us make sense of the complex human impacts of international migration? Human migration affects personal and national identities, cultural practice, equity, and belonging. The gospel concept of consecration can help us to navigate the dilemmas and inequities that accompany personal, social, and cultural change.
Marie Orton is Professor of Italian at Brigham Young University. She earned a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago and taught at Duke and Truman State before coming to BYU in 2016. Her research focuses on Italian decolonization, racial diversity, and the representation of migration in cinema. She has forthcoming translations of two Italian novels that focus on the migration of Italians to South America and women factory workers in Rome.
