We are pleased to announce that five Brigham Young University students and alumni have been named semi-finalists for the 2026–27 Fulbright U.S. Student Program.
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, the Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers recent graduates and graduate students full funding for a year of research, study, or English teaching in over 140 countries with the goal of promoting international goodwill. Students apply for awards to go abroad to study, do research, or teach English for one academic year.
The five semi-finalists this year are as follows:

Major: Mathematics, applied and computational mathematics, 2024 - Ilse Eskelsen, English Teaching Assistant Award, Luxembourg
Major: English, 2026 (minor in French) - Curtis Hoffmann, Open Study/Research Award, Thailand
Major: Microbiology, 2023 - McClay Sommers, English Teaching Assistant Award, Uzbekistan
Major: Political Science, 2026 (minors in Russian and Spanish)
