Writing Religious Experience Seminar Applications Due

Thursday, August 15

“Becoming BYU will require personal introspection.”
President Shane Reese

Did you study abroad during the Spring or Summer 2024 and have moving experiences in religious spaces? Were you challenged or inspired by conversations and dialogue, shaped by architecture of mosques, synagogues, temples, or cathedrals while traveling? The Writing Religious Experience Seminar is designed to help BYU students reflect on their religious experience through writing. Writing about religious experiences is a challenging yet deeply rewarding process. Learning to see how religious communities around the world affect our own understandings can lead to greater appreciation for the human pursuit of God and the ways that we individually and collectively experience divine inspiration.

This seminar is a non-credit opportunity for students to meet each Wednesday afternoon during the Fall 2024 semester. Students will learn to communicate their experiences and reflections within academic frameworks while seeking to deepen faith in the process.

Student funding ($600) is available for students who are accepted into and participate in the seminar. Funding is generously provided by the BYU Kennedy Center, BYU Religious Education, and the Council for Interfaith Engagement.

Seminar Convenors:
Dr. Andy Reed, Church History and Doctrine
Dr. Quinn Mecham, Political Science and Kennedy Center
