Domestic Internships

Not a Kennedy Center major or minor? Contact your academic department for instructions. To prepare for your domestic internships, begin by meeting with your department's internship coordinator or career director.

The following checklist is only for Kennedy Center declared majors and minors who have already secured a domestic internship. If you haven't secured an internship yet, start here.

A domestic internship means you will remain within the United States for the entire duration of your internship. Remote work is allowed as long as all work is done while living in the U.S.

Leaving the U.S. at any point? Follow the International Internship process found here.

If you are a declared Kennedy Center major or minor, you will need to complete the checklist below to receive academic credit for your internship:

Domestic Internship Checklist for Kennedy Center Students

  • Use this form to request approval from your Kennedy Center Faculty Coordinator
  • You’ll need this approval to apply the internship credit toward your major or minor. If you do not plan to apply it to your major/minor program requirement, you skip this step.

  • Students participating in an On-Campus Internship may skip this step, as an Internship Agreement is not required.
  • Check if your organization has a current Internship Agreement with BYU
  • If not, have your internship provider complete one before registering for internship credit

  • Submit the required BYU internship application through the BYU Careers & Experiential Learning website

  • Schedule an appointment with the Kennedy Center Domestic Internship Coordinator in the Advisement Center, 273 HRCB
  • Bring a newly signed Internship Agreement if applicable
  • At your appointment with the coordinator, they will review BYU’s internship policies, the registration process, and course requirements, then approve your completed application.

  • Wait for an email confirming your internship application approval
  • Register for IAS 399R (or GWS 399R for GWS students)
  • Ensure the class is added to your schedule, especially if it's after the add/drop deadline

  • View and submit assignments online through Canvas
