Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, Brigham Young University

Describe the path that took you from your American Studies degree to your current career or life situation.

The American Studies program made it easier for me to take classes in American history, political science, and other fields that a more traditional major would have made more difficult. Combining these area courses with core American studies courses provided me with a well-rounded and fascinating perspective on American politics, culture, and history. The personalized tutoring I received as part of my senior capstone course in American Studies refined my writing and critical thinking skills in important and lasting ways.

After graduating from BYU, I enrolled in a political science graduate program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, eventually received my PhD in political science, and now I am humbled to be back at BYU in the political science department. The knowledge, writing skills, and critical thinking abilities you'll receive as an American studies student are widely applicable and can set you up for success in your future career.
