BYU Graduation Year
2019
How did your Asian Studies degree at BYU connect you to your career goals?
Having a bachelor’s degree alone opens a lot of doors for employment that would otherwise be closed. Asian Studies was the fastest bachelors I could get so it allowed me to graduate at least a semester or two earlier.
Have you had the opportunity to work internationally?
I went to Taiwan right after college to teach English. While there I self-taught myself tech skills and started working in cloud computing.
What are specific competencies or skills you gained in the Asian Studies program that are applicable to your professional life and set you apart from others?
If anything, Chinese but you can learn and improve that in other ways. I’d highly recommend pursuing additional marketable skills if you’re pursuing anything but a career in academia.
What do you wish you had known as an Asian Studies student at BYU? What advice would you share with current students of Asian Studies?
Get additional skills now or only consider a minor in Asian studies.
