BYU Graduation Year
2015
Post-Bachelor Degree? Where? In what field?
University of Utah, School Counseling
How did your Asian Studies degree at BYU connect you to your career goals?
I think it could have given me a little edge but I also know plenty of people who do what I do without my background.
Have you had the opportunity to work internationally? If so, please elaborate on your experience (what you gained, how your Asian Studies background assisted, etc.)
I currently live and work in China. So having the background did help with my work.
What are specific competencies or skills you gained in the Asian Studies program that are applicable to your professional life and set you apart from others?
My history of East Asia courses have been useful in navigating the area. Also having language skills is helpful.
What do you wish you had known as an Asian Studies student at BYU? What advice would you share with current students of Asian Studies?
I took an ethno something another of South east Asia. It was from the anthropology department, anyways, totally useless, I wish I would have taken more history classes. I would also say you don't know where your future will take you. I think even if I had stayed back in the states my knowledge of Asian History and learning a new language would have been a huge blessing.
