STEP is a free travel registration service provided by the Department of State that allows U.S. citizens to enroll their foreign travel with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate. Enrolling in STEP will allow you to receive current travel warnings, alerts, and special advisories directly from the U.S. embassy while you are in-country. By registering with STEP, the U.S. embassy in your destination will know how to contact you in case of an emergency, such as a natural disaster, civil unrest, or a family emergency back home. You can enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program.
At the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention web site you can find a vast amount of health information for China. This includes which vaccines to get, eating and drinking safety, transportation safety, and other topics as well. Use this web site as a source to get familiar with the health and safety environment in China before and during your trip.
Using the membership number you received, you can access security, medical, travel, and city specific information from International SOS.
This real-time air quality index will enable you to be familiar with the air pollution in the city you are traveling to. You can monitor changes in air quality throughout your time in China.
