An international technical internship provides a unique opportunity to not only gain additional technical skills appropriate for your chosen major within the Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering and Technology but to also gain an in-depth, in-country experience that provides significant opportunities to increase your leadership capabilities, language skills, interpersonal skills, and communication skills. It also allows you to develop confidence in your ability to work within an international setting. Many leaders in industry have indicated that, in addition to technical skills, leadership and global agility are essential to compete in today’s ever-changing environment.

Weidman Center Global Internship
DATES
Spr-sum (options may exist for fall, winter, spring, or summer terms)
HOUSING
In most cases, the sponsoring company provides housing at company-owned dormitories or in housing near their facility. In some cases, the student may need to work either with the sponsoring company or on their own to identify appropriate housing.
COURSES
ENGT 199R Weidman Center Global Internship (.5 credit hours)
Weidman Center approval is required to add the course. The course is offered through the Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering and is open to any student within the college.
Note: Students have the option to sign up for internship credit through their respective program/department if they choose.
COST
Students will pay the $35 application fee and BYU tuition.
The goal of all sponsored international internships is for the sponsoring company to provide sufficient compensation so that the experience is economically feasible for the student. Most typically this may include the following: airfare, housing, local transportation, and, in certain cases, an additional monthly stipend.
Not included: Personal expenses, passport, vaccinations, excursions, and visa costs.
The Weidman Center will provide a $500 scholarship to eligible students within the Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering and Technology for each internship arranged through the center as part of the Weidman Center Global Internship program.
Students who apply and are accepted into the program with a qualifying international internship are eligible for the scholarship. This helps cover the costs for international health insurance and tuition.
TRAVEL
Students are responsible for purchasing their own airfare to and from the program sites. Airfare reservations must be made through BYU Travel. Students should contact a BYU Travel agent at:
