The Salt Lake Committee on Foreign Relations (SLCFR) is pleased to welcome Dr. Omar Garcia-Ponce, an Associate Professor of Political Science and International Affairs at George Washington University, as the guest speaker at this event.
Dr. Garcia-Ponce has previously served as an Assistant Professor at the University of California, Davis, and was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Global Development in Washington, DC. His research focuses on the causes and consequences of various forms of intrastate organized violence, including local criminal gangs, armed rebellions, and transnational organized crime groups. With regional expertise in Latin America (particularly Mexico), his work also extends to South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the United States. Come listen as he addresses the topic "Violence and Security in Latin America."
The evening's events will begin with a social at 6:00 p.m. followed by a dinner at 7:00 p.m., and then Dr. Garcia-Ponce's presentation will commence at 8:00 p.m.
