The yearning to adventure and connect with people of different cultures is definitely apparent in my mind and heart (for example I decided to study at Brigham Young University, which is across the country from my home and which has a completely different climate and culture than I am used to). Though money is tight, I decided to apply to a study abroad program to study music and art in Vienna, Austria. I was accepted but did not tell many people because I was still trying to figure out whether I needed to pull out because of financial inadequacy. The BYU Kennedy Center came to the rescue with the Global Opportunity Initiative and Scholarship, helping me financially so that I could be able to attend the Vienna Music Study Abroad this spring term.
For the duration and follow-up of the program, I will be posting a blog at least once a week to share my experiences. This is to show prospective BYU students who want to study abroad but are not financially able how the Global Opportunity Scholarship could help them. It is also to show potential and current donors how meaningful their contribution is to me, to my education, both academic and culturally, as well as how their service may help me help others. The blog is also to share how my life is going with friends and family, of course.
I am so excited to experience a new culture like that of Vienna, and am PUMPED to be studying music and art where so much of it was created. To study in the native land of Schoenberg, Schubert, Mozart, Brahms, Haydn, Strauss, Beethoven and so many more amazing composers blows my mind.
