Turkey and President Erdogan: A Strongman's Struggle at Home and in Syria

The Salt Lake Committee on Foreign Relations (SLCFR) is pleased to welcome Gönül Tol as the guest speaker at this event.

Gönül Tol is the founding director of the Middle East Institute’s Turkey program and a senior fellow for the Frontier Europe Initiative. She is also an adjunct professor at George Washington University’s Institute for Middle East Studies. She taught courses on Islamist movements in Western Europe, Turkey, world politics, and the Middle East at the College of International Security Affairs at the National Defense University. She has written extensively on Turkey-U.S. relations, Turkish domestic politics, and foreign policy and the Kurdish issue. She is also the author of a widely acclaimed book on Turkey entitled Erdogan’s War: A Strongman’s Struggle at Home and in Syria.

The evening's events include a social at 6:00 p.m. followed by a dinner at 7:00 p.m. and Tol's presentation at 8:00 p.m.
