For slightly more than the cost of studying and living in Provo, you can join us for a semester abroad in Spain! Get in touch with your critical and historical sensibilities as you discover yourself and our shared Western heritage in the rich culture, society, and landscape of Spain.
One of the world’s most beautiful countries, Spain is fascinating for its diverse history, striking architecture, stunning geography, and amazing food. Today, it is increasingly known for its creative vibrancy and its complex social and political mixes.
Without needing to speak or understand (or learn) Spanish, you will experience Spain firsthand and in ways beyond the reach of the tourist. You will earn 12 to 15 GE credit hours through courses exploring the history, culture, and arts of Spain—or providing an overview of world literature, family processes, or religion in Spanish contexts.
During your semester in Spain, you will stay in university housing or rented flats in three areas: Seville; Alcalá de Henares (the birthplace of Cervantes, just outside Madrid, and charming home of many church towers and chocolatiers); and San Sebastian (in the heart of Basque Country). You will also spend time in the north of Spain. There will be day excursions to many important and wonderful locations like Lisbon (Portugal), Cordoba, Granada, Merida, Consuegra, Toledo, Segovia/Salamanca/ Avila, El Escorial/Valle de los Caidos/Manzanares, Saint Jean de Luz, and Montserrat.
Participating students will recognize Spain 2020 as a highlight of their university career. Please plan to join us!
