Come spend Spring 2020 in Paris and see for yourself why for decades we’ve sung “I love Paris in the Springtime!” For centuries, Paris has been the veritable epicenter of history, literature, gastronomy, fashion, and the arts—and, more recently, of business, human rights and multiculturalism. Join us for an exploration of the layers of Paris and immerse yourself in Parisian culture and the city’s majestic urban landscape of cafés, parks, boulevards, world-renowned museums (Louvre, Orsay, Pompidou) and monuments (Sainte-Chapelle, the Eiffel Tower, Sacré-Cœur).
Designed to enable you to increase proficiency in the French language through coursework, home stays and real world interactions, our curriculum will also introduce you to the literary and artistic traditions of multicultural Paris, all presented within the context of their creation and allowing you to fulfill BYU GE requirements while earning multiple credits toward a French major, minor or certificate. Classes will be taught in Paris, using the city itself as a classroom as often as possible. Venturing further afield, the program will include multi-day excursions to Normandy and the Loire Valley (Bayeux, D-Day sites, Mont Saint-Michel, Renaissance châteaux), as well as to Nantes and Bordeaux. From Paris, we will also take day trips to nearby Chartres for the greatest gallery of Gothic stained glass in the world and Louis XIV’s luxurious palace at Versailles (right next to the site of the new church temple).
If you’ve taken Fren 321, the program is a great way to complete your French Language Certificate and get your GE Arts and your Letters electives done in one term!
