The March 2025 recipients of the Gilman Scholarship have been announced, and BYU has a new record: 45 students have received the scholarship, the most BYU has ever received for a given application period. (The Gilman Scholarship is awarded each October and March; an additional three students received the Gilman last October, equaling 48 students who've received Gilman money for 2025.)
The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program provides money for students who are Pell Grant recipients to participate in study abroad programs, international internships, and field schools. It is a program of the U.S. Department of State and is supported in its implementation by the Institute of International Education (IIE). University students can receive up to $5,000 for their international experiences; for those going abroad to study certain languages that are considered critical, that number increases to up to $8,000. The 48 BYU students for 2025 received a combined total of $179,500 to travel to locations as varied as Switzerland, Kazakhstan, New Zealand, and South Korea.
