Get out of the classroom and experience Japan. For the first part of the program, we will explore the ancient capital Kyoto, a city that offers Japan’s equivalent of Paris, London, and Rome all in one valley of astonishing beauty. Through blogs, scavenger hunts, field trips, and other forms of interactive learning, we will develop our cultural knowledge and language ability while discovering the temples, shrines, parks, culinary delights, and other cultural offerings of Kyoto along with the deep pockets of kansai coolness in neighboring Osaka. For the final part of the program, we will tour Japan by bullet train, stopping to visit war memorials in Nagasaki and Hiroshima; ancient castles in Himeji; hot springs resorts in the mountains of Gunma Prefecture; and festivals in northern Honshu and Hokkaido. We will also spend several days in Tokyo, a city renowned for its Instagram-worthy street fashion; cool stationary shops; world-famous anime studios; cutting-edge architecture; dope otaku culture; and many Michelin-starred restaurants—the most of any city in the world. We will experience it all, while attending events leading up to the 2021 Olympic Games.
