Japan and Korea: Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems

22 May–21 June 2026
Priority Deadline: 1 November 2025
Application deadline: 1 December 2025

Join us on a one-of-a-kind educational journey through Korea and Japan, where traditional culture and modern innovation intersect in sustainable food systems. This immersive study abroad program takes you from high-tech smart farms in Seoul, Korea to the serene rice paddies of Niigata Prefecture, Japan. Explore Korea’s iconic rural farms and ancient Buddhist temples, as well as Japan’s satoyama landscapes—village mosaics of forests, fields, and waterways shaped by centuries of harmonious human–nature interaction. You’ll travel through historic capitals like Gyeongju, Kyoto, and Nara—steeped in storied history, spiritual tradition, and agricultural heritage. You will interact directly with farmers, researchers, marketers, and community leaders as you trace the agricultural supply chain from farm to table. You'll even explore cutting-edge sustainability practices, meet organic growers, and witness community-based innovations that shape food security and land stewardship in both countries. Whether you’re walking the stone paths of centuries-old temples or harvesting alongside local growers, this active, engaging program will deepen your understanding of the ecological, cultural, and economic forces shaping agriculture in East Asia and of your own role in stewarding the planet's food future.
