International Biology Internships: Ghana

Dates: 25 July–5 August 2023 (approx.)
Application Deadline: 27 January 2023

Accra, Cape Coast, Tamale, Ghana. Students will work with Nurturing Nations in Ghana on projects to help vulnerable children and adults to become more secure and self-reliant. Nurturing Nations operates a campus near Kofi Kwei, northwest of Accra (nurturingnations.org), where we will work to install an aquaponics project that will provide fresh produce for the hundreds of children on the campus. We will train and educate students and staff at the school to operate and maintain the aquaponics system.

In addition, students will learn about Ghanaian culture, history, and wildlife by visiting Elmina Castle in Cape Coast and Mole National Park in the northern region, and by visiting directly with Percy Gogoe, the Nurturing Nations director in Ghana, and other native Ghanaians. Students will learn about the freshwater biodiversity of Ghana by working with local fisherman to document and take biological tissues from fish captured in rivers and streams of the area. Also, students will help with a medical day clinic to provide free modern medical care to hundreds of people in outlying village areas.
