Fashion, Food & the Finer Things in Paris & London

Dates: 22 June–6 August 2027
Priority Application Deadline: 1 December 2026
Final Application Deadline: 1 February 2027

Come discover fashion, food, and the finer things in Paris and London! This program will explore the multicultural and aesthetic richness of these European capitals. Our curriculum will help you develop a deeper understanding of the French and British luxury industries while also acquainting you with the sometimes-seamy history of beautiful objects. The cities and some of their marquee monuments—the Musée du Chocolat, the Musée d’Orsay, the Palais Galliera, the Victoria & Albert Fashion Gallery, the Fashion & Textile Museum, and the Imperial War Museum, among others—will be our classroom. We will trace the evolution of the fashion industry from the specialty boutique to the department store and from the farthingale to fast fashion. This will include deep dives into the operations of Harrods, Liberty of London, Galeries Lafayette, Dior, and Louis Vuitton. We will venture beyond the berets and baguettes of postcard Paris to explore the multiethnic heritage of the city’s fashion, food, and art. In London, we will pay special attention to the transformation of fashion from private object to public display. Of particular interest to our program will be the cultural legacies of France’s and England’s colonial past. Our itinerary will also include excursions to the cities of La Rochelle, Bordeaux, Bayonne, Verdun, Bath, and Oxford.
