This exciting program will enable students to closely examine Rising Star Outreach as a model of social change and to understand the complex processes that steer disadvantaged families and communities out of poverty to self-reliance. Students will travel across Northern and Southern India, learning from experts at both our campus near Chennai and that of the Madras School of Social Work, as well as while visiting many of the leprosy colonies where we work. You will also take an extended tour of the Golden Triangle, learning from the rich diversity of experiences and environments within India. Students will be able to experience and analyze how all of these pieces work together through this unique opportunity.
Nonprofit visits: Rising Star Outreach, School in Jaipur, orphanage in Agra, Little Flower Community in Bihar
Cultural visits: Golden Triangle tour and much more! Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, and Varanasi. Delhi will offer magnificent forts, mosques, food and shopping. Agra is the city of the Taj Mahal. Jaipur offers a glimpse into the grandeur of Rajputana and Varanasi has a vast religious history. In addition, you will visit Pondicherry, the famous French colony in India. Lastly, Mamallapuram, the ancient historic town visiting temples and beach sites.
