The guest speaker is William Lindsay, an AmeriCorps VISTA member who is working as the program manager at Women of the World. Lindsay is working with Women of the World to assess refugee women’s needs and develop processes to automate the work of case management and run a language cafĂ©; a conversation-based and participant-led ELL program. In June 2019, he was selected for the UN Alliance of Civilizations Fellowship Programme as one of twelve EUNA fellows. Over the course of two weeks, he traveled to Morocco, Egypt, and Qatar to engage with local stakeholders regarding the role of women in peacemaking and conflict resolution. In August 2018, Lindsay received an MS in cultural and social anthropology with an applied anthropology specialization from the University of Amsterdam, where he collaborated with local refugee community organizations to understand how various actors experience integration and how newcomers construct the notion of “home.” After graduating from the University of Utah with a BA in anthropology in 2016, he volunteered as a peer mentor with Youthlinc to work with refugee youth in an after-school setting.
