The United States has been the chief architect of the post-war rules-based international order that has led to unprecedented freedom and prosperity around the globe. But after Afghanistan, many are questioning the United States’ leadership role in the world. If we are done being the world’s policeman, does this also mean that the United States should abdicate its leadership role moving forward?
Senator Jeff Flake served for six terms in the U.S. House of Representatives before being elected to the United States Senate, where he served for six years. He is the author of Conscience of a Conservative: A Rejection of Destructive Politics and a Return to Principle. In July of 2021, Senator Flake was nominated by President Biden to serve as Ambassador to the Republic of Turkey.
