Jason Tower, Country Director for Burma (Myanmar) at the United States Institute of Peace, will discuss the reasons for the coup, the implications for violent conflict and ongoing efforts to end 70 years of civil war in the country, and the response of the international community. Mr. Tower will also discuss possible avenues for supporting the restoration of democracy and preventing a regional security crisis at the next meeting of the Salt Lake Committee on Foreign Relations (SLCFR).
