Joanna Kidney was born in Dublin and lives in County Wicklow, Ireland. Kidney’s work utilizes the medium of drawing and the potential of diverse materials to reflect on aspects of the human experience. She has had numerous solo exhibitions, including Drawer in Residence (Galway Arts Centre, Galway, 2016); Wunderkammer (Mermaid Arts Centre, Wicklow, 2015); and Dig, undig, redig (RHA Atrium Gallery, Dublin, 2013). Her awards and bursaries include a Ballinglen Arts Foundation Fellowship and an RHA Studio Award. She is a founding member of Outpost Studios; a featured artist on the Drawing Suite, and a member of the Tellurometer Project, an artist’s collective.

With an experimental approach to using a diverse range of methods and materials, such as felt, thread, the found/discarded object, the work is an intuitive enquiry of drawing as a medium. An exploration of randomness and repetition, movement and nuance are intrinsic to its making.
