Gabino Flores was born in Mexico City. Flores was eleven years old when he picked up his guitar for the first time. It was not until he was nineteen years old that he started his professional studies at the National Institute of Fine Arts (El Instituto Nacional de Belles Artes INBA), under the direction of Alfredo Bacca. After two years he studied in the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico City where Fernando Cruz played an important role as his instructor of guitar. In 1997, he took master classes under the direction of John Williams about perfection of technique and Interpretation, and he continued to participate in other master classes, including instruction from Fernando Marina in 2000.
Besides the traditional gigs, Flores started to give concerts and recitals in theaters and concert halls throughout Mexico City. In 1998, he also taught in local school districts, the culture houses, private lessons, and gave master classes. He prepared young guitarists from all around Mexico City until 2008, when he arrived in the United States. Since then he has continued to perform in Salt Lake City at social events at venues such as the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, the Salt Palace, Brigham Young University in Provo, and Springville Museum of Art. Now he is ready to introduce the classical guitar to the community.
