Scott Smith, the Diplomat in Residence for the Rocky Mountain Region, will be the speaker at the BYU Career Services State Department Series.
Smith was born and raised in Indiana. He obtained his BA in Spanish, French, and Political Science from Franklin College. After graduating, Scott participated in an exchange program in Japan. At the conclusion of that program, he returned to the United States and earned his Master’s degree at Georgetown University. One of Smith’s professors there was a retired Foreign Service Officer, which is when he first became interested in a career with the State Department. Scott entered the Foreign Service in 2002 as a Public Diplomacy officer. He has served in Bogota, Tokyo, Guatemala City, Washington D.C., La Paz, Sao Paulo, Havana, and Caracas.
