Nanjing is the capital of Jiangsu Province in eastern China. Located in the Yangtze River Delta economic zone, Nanjing has long been one of China’s most important cities. It is recognized as one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China. With an urban population of over 8.335 million (2017), Nanjing is the second-largest commercial center in the East China region after Shanghai.
Nanjing University (NJU), one of China’s key comprehensive universities under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Education, dates from 1902 when it was known as Sanjiang Normal School. In 2012, QS World University Rankings ranked Nanjing University 168th overall in the world.

HOUSING
Students are responsible for making their own housing arrangements. No on-campus housing is available. The Global Management Center, along with the host institution, may help with finding appropriate housing.
COURSES
Courses are available in both English and Chinese. No Chinese language skills are required. A broad spectrum of business courses is offered. Business courses may not be offered every semester. Most other disciplines do not have courses available.
This program is designed for business majors and minors. The only classes guaranteed to transfer are business courses. Many courses will count toward Marriott School courses and the Global Management Certificate.
All courses must be pre-approved before the trip by the Marriott School’s Whitmore Global Management Center. For a list of courses available at NJU, please visit the GMC (360 TNRB).
COST
Students need to pay the $35 ISP application fee and BYU tuition (cost is higher for graduate and non-Latter-day-Saint tuition). Students will be exempt from NJU tuition but will still need to pay regular BYU tuition. BYU tuition payment plans and scholarships are still applicable.
Students will be responsible for their airfare to and from China, visa fees, ground transportation, accommodations, meals, and any other educational and personal expenses incurred during the program.

PREPARATION
Students must be 18 year of age or older.
Students should be business majors or minors. Some exceptions are made. Please visit the GMC (360 TNRB) for additional information.
All students are expected to register for a half (.5) credit, pre-departure preparation class that will be held during second block. Contact the GMC (360 TNRB) for more information.
FINDING SOURCES
Regular BYU tuition scholarships, Pell Grants, and Federal Insured Student Loans may be applied to study abroad programs.
Students who submit the financial aid section of the ISP application and who have a current FAFSA form on file at the Financial Aid Office (A-41 ASB) will be considered for a study abroad scholarship.
Academic departments and colleges may assist with scholarships and grants.

FACULTY
The Student Exchange Program (SEP) is an independent international experience. SEP is comprised of individual students immersing themselves with local and international students on a foreign campus for a semester independent of any BYU professor or other BYU students.

International Study Programs (ISP) reserves the right to cancel this program, revise its offerings, or make any adjustments to the preliminary cost. If it becomes necessary for ISP to cancel a program, all program payments made to BYU ISP will be refunded to the student’s BYU financial account. ISP is the only office authorized to cancel any of its programs.
