Intern in Berlin, the capital of Germany—a historic and cultural center, and the spirit of a united, modern Germany. Professional internships are available in all industries any time of the year, e.g., business, marketing, management, finance, communications, tourism/hospitality and hotel and restaurant management, mechanical engineering, banking, retail, parliament/government, design, banking, media, theater, and municipal and public administration. In addition to offering important pre-professional experience, the Berlin program enhances one’s command of the German language.

HOUSING
Students will live in a dormitory, hostel, or apartment and are responsible for providing their own meals. Accommodations include a refrigerator and cooking facilities.
COURSES
Students are required to enroll in a minimum of twelve credits during the semester (6 credits spring term and 6 credits summer term) and may choose from the following:
GERM 311R Advanced Conversation (5 variable credit hours)
GERM 399R Academic Internship (9 variable credit hours)
If students are not a German major or minor, they are encouraged to earn additional credit from their major and minor areas.
Participants may not take any other courses on this program, including BYU Online courses, without approval by the program director and ISP.
COST
$5,000–5,500: winter, spring-summer, or fall semester
Includes: BYU LDS undergraduate full-time tuition, housing, internship placement, international health insurance coverage
Accompanying spouses: $2,900-3,400: winter, spring-summer, or fall semester
Includes: BYU LDS undergraduate 3 credits of tuition, housing, internship placement, international health insurance coverage
Not included: international airfare, meals, personal expenses, passport
PREPARATION
Students do not necessarily need prior experience in the German language to do an internship in Berlin.
Students are required to participate in the prep course, IAS 369R, during the second block of fall semester for the winter program, and during the second block of winter semester for the spring, spring-summer, and fall programs.
Accompanying spouses need to be credit-bearing participants on the program.
Spouses will also need to apply online and take the preparation course.
FUNDING SOURCES
Regular BYU tuition scholarships and Federal Insured Student Loans may be applied to international programs. Pell Grants may be applied to fall, winter, and sp/su semesters.
Students who submit the financial aid section of the ISP application, and who have a current FAFSA form on file at the Financial Aid Office (A-41 ASB), will be considered for a Study Abroad scholarship.
Academic departments and colleges may assist with scholarships and grants. Private grants and scholarships outside of BYU may also assist (see kennedy.byu.edu/student/scholarships).
The College of Humanities provides a $2,000 program discount to students majoring in the humanities and participating in international internships. Contact Dr. Brown for details.
