Consular Adjudicator LNAs serve on the front lines of a U.S. Embassy or Consulate and are critical to America’s national security. CA LNAs conduct one-on-one interviews and review supporting documentation to determine if a foreign national meets the requirements for entry into the United States. This position requires exceptional English grammar and fluency in Mandarin. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and at least twenty years old to apply. Former Member of Japanese Diet to Speak on Campus

Kazuo Takamatsu, a former member of the Japanese Diet (House of Representatives), will lecture on “Current Issues in Japanese Politics” (Japanese w/o translation) on  Thursday, 9 April at 10:00 a.m. in 238 HRCB.

On Friday,  10 April at noon in 745 SWKT, he will present teh same lecture in Japanese but with translation.

Both of these lectures will address Japan’s relations with China and North Korea, Abenomics and Japan’s debt problem, declining birth rates in Japan, and the reasons for the Liberal Democratic Party’s long rule in Japan and its landslide victory Read More…

Public Health Response during International Emergencies

Dr. Carrie Reed, an epidemiologist with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, will address this topic on  Wednesday, 1 April at noon in 238 HRCB.

Reed is based currently in the Influenza Division after joining CDC as an epidemic intelligence service (EIS) officer in 2007. She now studies the severity of influenza and the impact of influenza vaccination in the U.S. and consults on similar projects with partner countries and the World Health Organization.

While at CDC, she has worked in the field and in the Atlanta-based Emergency Operations Center during public health responses to the H1N1 influenza pandemic, H7N9 avian influenza outbreak in China, and most recently the Ebola Response for cases both in the U.S. and Sierra Leone.

Reed grew up in Arizona before completing MPH and DSc degrees in epidemiology at Boston University School of Public Health.
