Women Have a Voice

A Workshop on How to Write for the Popular Press

Friday, 30 September, 1:00–4:00 p.m., UVU
Friday, 28 October, 1:00–4:00 p.m., BYU

BYU, UVU, and the WomanStats Project have teamed up to present a two-part empowering writing event. Participants will gather first at UVU for instruction on how to write op-eds, letters to the editor, blog posts, and to learn why girls and women should publicly express their opinions (e.g., to influence policy; most writers on online popular journals are male).

Participants then have one month to draft a piece and will return in October at BYU to receive feedback from professional writers waiting to meet them!

Women and girls across Utah, regardless of age, educational status, or political views are welcome to attend this free event. A few pieces will be selected for publication on local blogs, and the remaining participants are free to submit their pieces to any news outlet they choose.

Identify your voice, hear dynamic speakers, work with writing coaches, craft a piece of writing that you may later publish, and eat refreshments.

Address questions to natalie_romeri-lewis@byu.edu.
