Grants for college graduates, graduate students and working professionals for an academic year of advanced language study of Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Thai, Burmese, and Khmer.

Tuition plus a stipend for travel, living and study expenses at eligible language programs

Applicant Eligibility

  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States
  • Pursuing career that involves regular use of East/SE Asian language
  • Received bachelor’s degree by start of grant
  • Advanced level in the language

Eligible Language Programs

  • Inter-University Center for Japanese Language Studies in Yokohama
  • Inter-University Program for Chinese Language Studies at Tsinghua University in Beijing
  • International Chinese Language Program at National Taiwan University in Taipei
  • Similar programs in Korea and SE Asia
