CELEBRATING 160 YEARS: “Icelanders and their connection to Utah and the West”
9–13 September 2015

Commemorating the first Icelandic settlers in North America who arrived in Spanish Fork, Utah September 1855. The conference will celebrate the Icelanders who immigrated and settled in Utah and the West. The $39 registration fee will cover the cost of the conference and banquet.

The office of Congressman Steve King (IA-04) is seeking candidates for a full-time, unpaid internship for the 2015 fall semester in his Washington, D.C., office. Candidates must be pro-life, pro-traditional marriage, highly motivated, detail oriented, and possess communication and organization skills, while having a strong work ethic to complete tasks on a deadline. Interns’ duties will include, but are not limited to, answering phones, running errands, researching legislation for the member and legislative staff, assisting the communications staff, attending hearings and briefings, and answering constituent letters on various issues before the House. Iowa ties are preferred but not required.

23rd Biennial Conference of the Association of Canadian Studies in the United States

“New Horizons in Canadian Studies”
14–17 October

The Association of Canadian Studies in the United States (ACSUS) will be held at the Tuscany Suites and Casino in Las Vegas (http://www.tuscanylv.com), an intimate and welcoming resort within easy walking distance of the Strip.

Our conference theme this year is “New Directions in Canadian Studies” and will feature a panel taking stock of the state of the field in different parts of the world. We are fortunate in having several leading literary figures from the Province of Quebec speaking in plenary sessions at the meeting. Also featured will be a panel on the Canadian federal election that will be held 19 October.

Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship

2016 Spring Fellowship
Application deadline: Thursday, 1 October

The Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship Program invites recent college and graduate school alumni to apply for full-time, six-to-nine month fellowships in Washington, D.C. Outstanding individuals will be selected to work with nonprofit, public-interest organizations addressing peace and security issues. Applications are especially encouraged from candidates with a strong interest in issues such as export controls, international security, and ethnic conflicts, and those who have prior experience with public-interest activism or advocacy. Benefits include a $2,900 monthly salary, health insurance, board and alumni mentoring, travel to Washington, D.C., to begin the fellowship, and a small stipend to attend meetings or take a course.
