For the fourth year in a row, 100 Davis Fellowships are offered to cover the full cost of summer-language study from beginner to graduate levels in Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew, Japanese, Portuguese, and Russian at the Middlebury College Language Schools. Below are only some of the scholarship deadlines coming up into the first of the new year.

National Institutes of Health: Graduate Partnerships Program
This program offers a PhD experience combined with extensive research in NIH labs. The award ranges from $22,500 to $31,800 depending on the program and year of study.
Deadline: Tuesday, 15 December

Critical Language Scholarships for Intensive Summer Institutes
The U.S. State Department offers fully funded intensive overseas language study for Arabic, Bangla/Bengali, Hindi, Punjabi, Turkish, Urdu, Chinese, Korean, Persian, and Russian.

Rangel Summer Enrichment

The Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Summer Enrichment Program is a six-week summer program designed to provide undergraduates with a deeper appreciation of current issues and trends in international affairs, a greater understanding of career opportunities in international affairs, and the enhanced knowledge and skills to pursue such careers. Rangel Graduate Fellowships

The Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Program is seeking applicants for its 2010 graduate fellowships. These fellowships are designed for individuals interested in careers in diplomacy in the U.S. Foreign Service and include:

1) up to $34,000 per year for two years toward a graduate degree in international affairs or a related discipline at a U.S. university;
2) paid internships working for a Member of Congress on international affairs issues and at a U.S. Embassy overseas; and
3) entry into the U.S. Foreign Service for those who successfully complete the program.

Twenty fellowships will be awarded in 2010.

The selection process is very competitive, so prime candidates are students with strong academic backgrounds, an interest in international affairs and public service, and a record of community service. Financial need is also considered. The program encourages the application of members of minority groups and those with financial need.
