Siena – the picture-perfect medieval Tuscan hill-town – will be your home as you spend a semester immersing yourself in Italian culture. You will become a part of daily life in Siena, living with a local family, attending classes with other students from Europe and around the world at the Dante Alighieri Institute, and investigating every aspect of this fascinating city’s culture. Your classwork will send you frequently to nearby Florence, the epicenter of the Renaissance. Your pursuit of art, architecture, history and culture will take you to Venice (where one homework assignment, for instance, asks you to travel to a remote island in the Venetian lagoon). You will spend several days in Rome, studying ancient, medieval, and Renaissance masterpieces in the Roman Forum, the Colosseum, the Vatican museums, and many more. Everywhere you go and everything you see is your textbook. In your classes you will discuss, write about, and make sense of everything you see and do during this intense semester.
