The Lisbon, Portugal program gives students the opportunity to experience one of Europe’s oldest and most vibrant countries. Founded in 1142, Portugal boasts a rich history extending back to the ancient Celtic and Roman inhabitants. Portugal’s contemporary culture bears influences from Iberian, African, South American, and Asian sources due to Portugal’s history of empire, which extended across the globe. Based in Lisbon, the country’s capital, we will explore Portuguese culture by visiting medieval and Renaissance castles, monasteries and convents, royal palaces, and world-class museums. Walking through Lisbon’s medieval streets, we will immerse ourselves in the musical, culinary, literary, and artistic traditions of this fascinating country. Fluency in Portuguese is not required for this program.
