Amazonian Ecuador is ethnically and linguistically diverse. In addition to Quichua, speakers of Shuar, Achuar, and Waorani will be at the field school for on-site instruction. Important work on language documentation of Ecuador’s many understudied languages has begun, but much more work needs to be done. Students will have opportunities to interact with prominent scholars from the U.S. and Ecuador. When their program is completed, students will articulate a deeper understanding of their linguistic discipline by comparing and contrasting how it is understood and practiced in an international setting.
