Ecuador is one of the most biologically and ethnically diverse places on earth. It is a place where you can learn and apply principles of ecology and sustainable agriculture in three distinct natural regions: the Amazon rainforest, the Andes mountains, and the coastal lowlands. In the Amazon, you will study in a rainforest lodge on the Napo River and see how sustainable principles are applied in both natural and agricultural ecosystems. In the Andes mountains, you will participate in an ecosystem conservation while staying in a traditional hacienda. In the coastal lowlands, you will learn from local farmers and fishermen and will experience marine ecosystems by snorkeling and hiking on an island preserve. In all these amazing environments, learning will be done in rich cultural settings where you will meet people and experience foods, traditions, and languages. Students will participate in a mentored research project related to sustainable ecosystems.
