This internship will be with the Children’s Medical Missions (CMM), which is a local Chinese nonprofit foundation that promotes maternal and child health in developing countries. Since 2002, CMM has been very involved in China with the roll-out of an obstetrics training package called ALSO: Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics. The ALSO training package consists of a two-day training course designed to improve the skills of maternal care providers.
This internship focuses on monitoring and evaluating the roll-out of the ALSO training conducted in 2015 in county-level hospitals in rural Hebei Province. In China, the student intern will meet training leaders and participants, conduct interviews, measure the scale up of the training, and compose a summary report of the training from 2015 to 2017. The intern will be required to complete an assessment report, including an abstract and a manuscript to be submitted for publication. In January 2017, the student intern will also serve as a host to the CMM Chinese coordinator when she visits Provo. The internship may also include some assessment of ALSO in other provinces.
